What GEO means
Generative engine optimization, or GEO, is the work of making your brand show up inside the answers of tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini. SEO aims at a ranked list of links. GEO aims at a sentence in an answer.
That changes the question. It is no longer “how do I rank for this keyword?” but “when someone asks about my category, does my brand come up at all?”
Where the answers come from
Models draw on public text: forums, video comments, Q&A threads, articles. When many people in the same space describe a product in similar words, that description becomes easy to repeat.
A brand that is not discussed anywhere is hard for an AI to recommend, however good the product is.
What helps
- A clear description of what you do and for whom, on your own site
- Mentions in the places where your audience asks questions
- Consistent wording across those mentions
- Time, because mentions accumulate
What does not
Nobody can guarantee a citation. It depends on the model, the topic and how often your brand is mentioned. Anyone who promises a fixed result is guessing.
The second point on the list is the one most teams skip, because it means spending hours on forums and social networks. That is the part Supermention takes over: it finds the threads worth joining and posts a reply that fits each one.
